Warwan Valley – Kashmir’s Untouched Wilderness
Season: Both SUMMER & WINTER (best from June–October; heavy snow cuts off the valley in winter)
Overview:
At 2,134 meters (7,000 ft) above sea level, Warwan Valley is a hidden jewel of Kishtwar district in Jammu & Kashmir, bordered by the Suru Valley of Ladakh on one side and Kashmir Valley on the other. Around 150 km (6–7 hrs) from Srinagar, Warwan is famed for its untouched meadows, gushing streams, and traditional wooden houses. Isolated for nearly half the year due to snow, it is among the least explored valleys in Kashmir, offering raw beauty and cultural authenticity.
How to Reach:
By Air: Srinagar International Airport (150 km / 6–7 hrs).
By Road: Accessible via Anantnag – Achabal – Kokernag – Margan Top route. The Margan Top Pass (3,600 m) is the gateway to Warwan and remains closed in winter.
By Rail: Jammu Tawi (300 km) is the nearest major railhead.
