Overview:
At an altitude of around 3,500–3,800 meters (11,500–12,500 ft), Zanskar Valley is one of Ladakh’s most remote and breathtaking regions, about 460 km (2 days) from Srinagar and 240 km (10–12 hrs) from Leh. Flanked by the Zanskar Range and Suru Valley, it is known for its rugged landscapes, ancient monasteries, high passes, and the iconic frozen Zanskar River trek. With its mix of Buddhist heritage, dramatic gorges, and serene villages, Zanskar is both a cultural and adventure paradise.
How to Reach:
By Air: Leh Airport (240 km / 10–12 hrs drive).
By Road: Two main routes –
From Leh via Kargil & Suru Valley (240 km, long but scenic).
From Srinagar via Kargil (460 km, 2 days).
By Rail: Jammu Tawi (720 km) is the nearest major railhead.

Karsha Monastery – Largest monastic complex in Zanskar, offering panoramic valley views.
Zanskar River Confluence (Nimu, near Leh) – Where the Zanskar meets the Indus, a stunning viewpoint.
Sightseeing (Accessible by Walk / Trek Only):
Phuktal Monastery – A stunning cliffside gompa built around a natural cave, accessible only by trek.
Zongkhul Monastery – A cave monastery linked to Naropa, reached via trekking trails.
High Alpine Passes – Pensi La (4,400 m) and Shingo La (5,091 m) treks.

Special Note: Zanskar remains cut off for nearly 6 months due to heavy snow. Travel requires good planning, and accommodations are basic but rewarding for adventurers.
